This site was the reason that Protect Earth came into existence in the first place. Phil, our chair, had been cycling around Europe, raising money for others to plant trees, when the first COVID lockdown came into force. As he had previously been living in New York he found a temporary home at this farm in a holiday let, not too far from family and friends. Talking to the farmer one day, he learned how hard it could be to plant trees because of government red tape so he decided he could make life simpler for small farm holders. Together with like-minded friends across the UK, Protect Earth was born. Once the charity was officially registered we began to look for other landowners to help.
As this was new to us, we started small, planting a mix of just 114 native saplings on this farm to link small areas of woodland, which it was hoped would encourage regeneration and greater biodiversity over time. We chose species carefully to provide a range of food and shelter for wildlife.
